dancing on the songs of the whales

For the past few months, whales, mostly humpbacks are on their migration back to antartica.

In the Indian Ocean, one of their routes down is passing through the waters Reunion and Mauritius and not so far from the shore.

We have had wonderful sightings last month off the coast of Gris Gris, with a mother and calf pair. For more than two hours until sunset, the pair played in front of us, between 200 to 500 metres from the shore.

These were the first whales that I saw and they were magical moments. In such moments, you live with them and wonder about the atrocities that are still being perpetuated against whales.

And with humpbacks, its always a wonderful show and they are indeed so graceful.

Whales always give the amazing feeling of a special moment.

Some weeks back, I have been in a way hearing their calls again. Telepathy with whales!

I started watching intently the horizon.

One day as we were having a roast chicken on random rocky beach close to St André, north of reunion, I shreiked...........

There were my friends again.

Given the depth of the sea closer ashore, whales tend to move closer here than in Mauritius. And they are really not shy, and sometimes quite curious as well!

After that we had some more sightings, the first being only jets from the shores of the Barachois at St denis after having spent a long summer day almost dehydrated scrutinizing the horizon.

A few days later, a second set was a set of 3 again, were swimming just next to the coral reef of les Salines as close as 50 M from the shore. You could see them so clearly. We followed them until around St Leu, they carried on their way, I walked alone on the beach, sad that we hd parted ways and too absorbed by the three whales to realise that I was on the runway of crazy paragliders.

And believe me, your heart skips a beat every time there is any sort of whale activity.

I was all through in the sun, in fact without even thinking that I could be sunburnt as I was so captured by the amazing scene. ( The sun screen naturally does not help much).

Again I set forth on their trail... lucky was i again when sitting on the shores of l'hermitage, my eyes set on the gaze, I saw another group approaching, they were three again on their sunday outing!
I screeched... people looked around and saw me with my mouth wide open.

Yes indeed, i had been blessed with whales.

To top it all, later on the same day, we had a sighting of one whale, actually swimming around boats and making a show. I think this whale wa curious about humans and wanted to observe the human species.

Later in his report...

Two legged creature , main activity looking through a strange device with a clic, species making strange noises, could be close to birds!...
